How We Carry Out a Calibration Service

For an effective calibration, the calibration standard(s) MUST be more accurate than the measuring instrument under test. Generally, with the accuracy of today’s handheld instruments, a calibration laboratory standard should be 4 times the accuracy of the UUT (unit under test). At Tracklink we give results, what we see in our lab we print on paper ‘your calibration certificate.’ Our simple philosophy is ‘we do not and will not compromise.

Our understanding and knowledge of instruments used within the Rail Industry whether specifically designed for the industry, this extends to seeing the instruments used and measurements taken trackside and within locations. Over the years we have worked long and hard over the UK with Network Rail signalling engineers to fully understand and replicate some of the unique signals that are produced to maintain the momentum of the infrastructure.

At Tracklink we write all our calibration program procedures which are relentlessly tested using the instrument that it is intended for. On completion a test calibration certificate is produced for detailed analysis before the procedure is released for use. Rail specific instrument calibrations have all been examined and agreed for use by Network Rail technical signalling group before being put into operation.

Repairs

We have a remarkably simple policy, if it cannot be repaired, we do NOT charge.

Quite simply this means we do not charge an investigation fee. All repairs are quoted upon investigation of fault found, component(s) that require replacing and estimated time to carry out the repair. Most repairs can be carried out and completed on the same day. Although this depends on the availability of components, most common types are carried in stock. All repairs quoted include a new calibration certificate too.

Out of specification

If your instrument has drifted out of the manufacturer's specification this can be adjusted and then verified. This service is all part of our calibration procedure, one cost covers adjustment and verification.

Instrument Calibration Problems

Accidentally dropping your instrument, with the robustness of instruments these days this shouldn’t have much effect. But it can. Are you willing to take the risk, knowing the next measurement whether it’s voltage, current or resistance maybe displaying an inaccurate measurement. The stresses and strains that are put upon instruments are quite significant, constant temperature variations, vibration in transporting to and from site, exposing it to the weather (rain) these are just to name but a few. Keeping this in mind, components do over time and will drift in specification. This is why it is paramount, especially in a safety critical industry, that instruments are verified annually, and any adjustments can be carried out if drifting has occurred.

Calibrating NEW instruments

Just ask yourself these 4 questions:

  1. When was the instrument manufactured?
  2. What distance has the instrument travelled to get on to the distributors shelf?
  3. What temperature variations has the instrument gone through?
  4. How long is left on the inclusive calibration certificate, if provided?

Just these 4 questions above suggest that any new instrument should be verified and a new 12-month calibration certificate requested.

While you wait

We have on many occasions calibrated engineers’ instrument(s) while they have waited. We endeavour to keep the waiting to a minimum and this can be achieved if we are prompted that you require this service.

Please complete the form below, we will contact you within 24 hrs with a quote and arrange for your instrument to be calibrated if you are happy to proceed.
